Gibson Consultants Presents to the Society of Actuaries
Healthcare search firm invited to share ideas about alternate careers in healthcare
Ridgefield, CT - June 14, 2011 – Gibson Consultants, a search firm specializing in healthcare companies, was invited to participate in the Society of Actuaries’ annual meeting in Boston, Massachusetts on June 12, 2011. James T. Gibson, President and Founder of Gibson Consultants, shared ideas about alternative careers for health actuaries.
For the past several months, the Society of Actuaries has had in place a Work Group tasked with investigating alternative current and future career paths in healthcare. At a time of major change to the US healthcare financing and delivery systems, this topic is especially timely as the Society held its annual meeting. In recognition of this, and the Work Group’s comprehensive review, the topic was added to the annual meeting agenda.
According to Gibson, “We are entering a period of major transformation of the US healthcare system. Health plans and other payors, traditionally reliable employers of health actuaries, are wondering what their business models will be in a few years. At the same time, it’s widely expected that Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) will lead to provider groups taking financial risk for the care they provide. This will likely create a need for risk analysis, predictive modeling, and other actuarial type services. It’s a good time for the Society and its members to be thinking about these possible career choices.”
